The Department of
Dermatology and STD, has a 30 bedded in-patient ward and admit a
variety of dermatological illnesses including emergencies. It provides
daily OPD services, catering to approximately 700-1000 patients per day
(both Old +New). It also runs daily Mycobacterial (Leprosy+ Cutaneous
TB) Clinic and STI Clinic, mandated under the respective National
programs. Apart from this, the department is equipped to provide
phototherapy, radiofrequency surgery, chemical cautery and various dermatosurgical procedures including Nail surgery.
These are provided through Minor Operation Theatres (in OPD and Ward).
The Department runs regular referral services for inpatient referrals
from other departments. It has been running the MD Program since 2001
with an annual intake of 3 candidates. Students from this program are
serving as eminent teaching Faculty all over India and abroad, and many
are placed well in practice.
The department is regularly
engaged in conducting quality research through funded and non-funded
projects including Post graduate theses. The research output from the
department is published in high impact factor journals and is highly
cited. The post graduate students as well as supervisors have been
recipients of numerous awards and medals, with regular presentations in
National and International Conferences. Departmental Faculty is regularly
invited as Guest Faculty in Dermatology Conferences. Other than
Undergraduate and Postgraduate students, the department is regularly
engaged in providing education to Nursing students as well as
inter-departmental teaching with Community Medicine. The department has
also conducted numerous Conferences, CME’s and training programs over
the years, including 2 National Conferences and one International
Conference. Faculty members of the Department have been providing their
services as experts in various committees/commissions at National level
including Leprosy Control and STI Control. They have also been serving
the educational cause through eminent positions in IADVL (Indian
Association of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology)
as well as Editorial positions in peer reviewed journals with high
impact factor including IJDVL, IDOJ, JCAS, Ind
