Dr Mrinalini Kotru, joined
the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) as a Lecturer in
Pathology in 2005 as a faculty. It was in UCMS that she got interested
in Hematology and her subsequent years were dedicated to teaching,
learning and involvement in multiple research projects in Hematology.
Subsequently due to her growing
interest in hematology in association with a senior colleague, she was
awarded an important research project to investigate the Effect of Imatinib therapy on CML with Special reference to
myelofibrosis’’. In the following year, the department of Science and
Technology, Government of India acknowledged the efforts of this young
scientist with Rs 17 lakhs research grant for
the study of Chronic Myeloid Leukemia, a severe form of blood cancer. It
was due to her ever-intensifying involvement in Hematology research
that she then decided to pursue the Doctorate in Hematopathology
from the premier Institute of the country the All India Institute of
Medical Sciences in 2010. Continuing with her journey in hematology,
she was elected as the treasurer in 2016, and as secretary in 2019 by
Delhi Society of Hematology which is a State chapter of national body
for hematology, ISHBT. She has ever since, authored many research
papers, mentored many PG students, and organized conferences and
workshops in the field of hematology. Currently, she is in charge of
Hematology, Hospital lab services and medical illustration unit of
UCMS.
Apart
from that Dr Kotru
is widely regarded and respected in the student community, with whom
she has been involved not just in curricular teaching but in mentoring
and supporting young impressionable medical undergraduates in the
formative years of their lives. She is one of the founding members of
the Medical Humanities section of the Medical Education wing of the
university. She is an active member of Medical education unit and
editor-in chief of
‘MeU Connect’ , newsletter of
MEU , UCMS.
