Dr. SK Bhasin MD is Head of Department of Community
Medicine, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Delhi
University since June 2019. He received his MD in Community Medicine
from PGIMS, Rohtak in 1987 under the tutelage
of Prof. Y.L Vasudeva, a doyen of public
health in the country. In February 1990, Dr. Bhasin joined as Lecturer in the Department of
Community Medicine, University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi.
As a
Faculty Member at UCMS & GTB Hospital, Dr.
Bhasin has always strived to learn from
people and the community with a youthful zeal. His work has focused on
the provision of outreach based primary health care services in the
rural areas of South, North and East Delhi. In 1994 he completed 2
months of training in Field Epidemiology from NCDC, New Delhi. As
Public Health Physician, Dr. Bhasin participated in implementation, evaluation
and reviews of various National Health Programmes like guinea worm
eradication, immunization etc.
He
has been National Resource Faculty at NIPPCD Delhi, Consultant ICDS
Scheme, Joint Editor Public Health Update, Zonal coordinator Pulse
Polio East Delhi, MCI Assessor, Reviewer of Journals including IJMR,
IJCM, IJPH etc. and Trainer for many diverse Training Programmes
including Health Management, HIV/AIDS, Pulse Polio, etc. Dr. Bhasin is a member of
National Academy of Medical Sciences and Fellow of Indian Association
of Preventive and Social Medicine, Indian Public Health Association and
International Medical Science Academy as well as recipient of Harcharan Singh Oration of IAPSM. He has authored
97 publications in National and International Journals and has been
Supervisor for more than 20 MD/PhD students.
Over
the last 5 years, Dr. Bhasin
has focused on Teaching and Training young Postgraduate Students for a
meaningful life and career in the discipline of Public Health. He has
strived to develop and introduce New and Innovative Methods in Teaching
and Training. Seeing young Public Health Students grow and attain
comprehensive Public Health skills over the course of their study is
what motivates and drives him.
His
major interest in academics is Social Sciences and the Philosophical
aspects of Public Health and Epidemiology.
