Department of Dentistry

The services provided by the Department encompass a plethora of dental treatment modalities such as endodontic therapy, major and minor oral surgical procedures apart from the routine day to day services like tooth extractions, intra-oral radiography, scaling and oral prophylaxis. The department is collaborating with other specialties in providing interdisciplinary patient care such as immediate prophylaxis and treatment for oncology patients, molds for cases undergoing vaginoplasty in the Obs & Gynea department and providing temporary obturators for patients from the Otorhinolaryngology Department. Treatment is provided to senior citizen, Mandoli jail inmates and children of Sanskar Ashram on priority basis. Post graduate program is running in speciality of pediatric & preventive dentistry.

Postgraduate teaching Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry centre with residency program established in the year 2011 with intake of two Postgraduate per year. Department provides postgraduate training in comprehensive oral health care for pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence. The Department thrives to achieve a high ethical standard of practice, promotion of education, and research in Pediatric Dentistry. Our clinics provide comprehensive oral health examinations, teeth cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, restorative procedures, extractions, minor surgical procedures, space-maintainers, laser treatment and trauma management. Here we recreate happy smiles in toddlers and infants affected by severe early childhood caries by providing Full Mouth Rehabilitation. Uncooperative children are treated with the use of latest endodontic techniques to shorten the treatment duration with satisfactory results. Multiple aesthetic rehabilitation procedures are done for the severely damaged primary dentition like SSC crowns, zirconia etc. Through a multidisciplinary approach, orthodontic interceptive procedures are performed using removable and also fixed orthodontic appliances. We render rehabilitative treatment under general anesthesia for very young children with special health care needs. Children receiving treatment for hemophilia, thalassemia and other syndromic patients are given treatment on priority basis. School Dental Health Programs are regularly conducted among the children/parents/teachers to create awareness about common oral health problems in children and their prevention.

The unit of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics deals with the prevention, interception and correction of malocclusion, i.e, malaligned teeth and dento-facial deformities. The spectrum of orthodontic health problems managed include mandibular prognathism/retrognathism, maxillary hypoplasia/hyperplasia, open bites, deep bites, abnormally long faces, facial asymmetries, temporomandibular disorders. This specialty has a special focus on effective management of patients with craniofacial anomalies like cleft lip and palate that need orthodontic interventions right from infancy to adulthood. These patients require interdisciplinary care in coordination with other specialties like Otorhinolaryngology, Plastic surgery, Pediatrics. The unit provides a multitude of treatment like fixed orthodontics (braces), removable orthodontics, myofunctional appliances, orthopedic appliances, ortho-surgical modalities, disimpactions and occlusal splints to patients ranging from childhood, adolescence and adulthood. The unit of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics aims at enhancement of oro-facial esthetics, functions and craniofacial morphology, thus, boosting patients psychosocial wellbeing and self esteem.
