Dr Madhu Kumari Upadhyay, MD is a Professor
cum Medical Officer incharge of Rural Health Center at UCMS and GTB Hospital, Delhi. After
completing her MD in Preventive and Social Medicine from NSCB Medical
College, Jabalpur, Dr Madhu K Upadhyay started her professional career as a Surveillance
Medical Officer for the National Polio Surveillance Project of World Health
Organization at Kanpur. But her interest in
academics and passion for teaching soon brought her to the University
College of Medical Sciences & GTB Hospital, Delhi. Her journey at
UCMS began as a Senior Resident in 2006 and is currently working as
Professor & Medical Officer of Rural Health Centre since 2016. Even
while pursuing her Masters she had enriching field experience while working
in research projects funded by the WHO, DANIDA, INCLEN
and other agencies. Dr Upadhyay has been instrumental
in setting up the outreach centre at Rural Health Training Centre of
the Department of Community Medicine at Narela
and has constantly endeavored for its up
gradation and smooth functioning.
Being a faculty for more than
15 years, she has also worked in various other capacities from time to
time. She is a National Assessor for Effective Vaccine Management
Assessment jointly coordinated by National Cold Chain & Vaccine Management Resource
Centre - MOHFW & UNICEF since 2019. She has also served as a Consultant for Monitoring and Evaluation of ICDS
Projects in Delhi from 2014 to 2015, as a part of State Monitoring
Unit, sponsored by NIPPCD, Delhi and a Guest Faculty for MPH course being conducted by
the National Centre for Disease Control, Delhi, BMS course conducted by
Shahid Rajguru
College of Allied Sciences, Delhi from 2007 to 2012 and DNB Family
Medicine course conducted by the National Board of Examinations. She is
a reviewer for ICMR – Fellowship and STS projects since 2012 and also a reviewer of research papers for Indian
Journal of Cancer and Asian Research Journal of Arts and
Social Sciences. She has represented the department as a member of the
District Surveillance and Rapid Response Teams constituted for
implementing the cluster containment plan for COVID – 19 in the
North-east and Shahdara districts of Delhi.
Dr Upadhyay
has been the supervisor or co-supervisor for ten MD theses, supervisor
for ICMR-STS projects, has 25 research publications in national and
international journals and has been actively involved in proposal
designing and implementation of nearly eight funded research projects
as an investigator or co-investigator till date. Her areas of interest
in research include: Health Systems Research, Child Health &
Nutrition and Public Health Approach to Cancers and other Non Communicable Diseases.
