The department participated in "In-service Training
in Medical Laboratory Technology" Programme. Besides routine
biochemical investigations the department manages 24-hour emergency
laboratory service. More than 5 lakhs biochemical investigation were
performed in routine lab and 2.5 lakhs investigations in emergency lab
last year.
The major thrust areas of research in the department are
biochemistry of plant-derived active principals for diabetes mellitus
and atherosclerosis, and environmental biochemistry with reference to
Xenobiotic Toxicology. The department has been selected by DST for
sanction of grant under FIST Programme. Presently, the department has
received the grant-in-aid for projects from ICMR, CPCB and DST. Three
students are persuing their PhD programme.
HPLC, PCR have been procured.
The clinical
biochemistry section of the department has synchron
Cx-4, Olympus AV400 chemistry analysers ,
AVL-900 blood gas analyzer, Anthos ELISA
Reader and a number of semi-autoanalysers.
Apart from routine tests, hormone assays, viz., thyroid fertility,
renal stone analysis, tumour markers are done. Quality assurance
programme is being maintained.
The department has
well established state of the art laboratories for clinical research,
molecular biology, drug toxicology and plant research. Department plans
to further develop advanced biochemical, immunotoxicological
and molecular biological techniques such as PCR, RFLP and gel
documentation for postgraduate students. Further research-work include:
Extablishment of a cell-culture laboratory;
role of medicinal plants in various diseases; therapeutic efficacy and
toxicity testing of various drugs, chemicals, etc. Read More….
