 Dr. Vinod
Kumar Arora, Director Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology,
UCMS joined the college as a Demonstrator in the year 1983. After a
year in 1984, he joined MD Pathology at UCMS being the 1st pathology
postgraduate of the college. He was appointed as Lecturer in the year
1989. During his post graduation he developed
interest in Cytopathology and Experimental Pathology. At that time UCMS
was affiliated to Safdarjung Hospital (SJH)
and he pioneered the work on fine-needle aspiration diagnosis in collaboration
with Cancer Surgery Department of SJH and later under the guidance and
leadership of his mentor Dr. (Professor) Arati Bhatia, established the Cytopathology
Services at GTBH. He published a number of original publications
pertaining to cytologic diagnosis of
parasitic lesions, tuberculosis, leprosy, gall
bladder carcinoma and urine cytology. In 2005 on the basis of his work
in Cytopathology, he got selected for the post of Professor of Cytopathology
at AIIMS, New Delhi. As Professor and In-charge of Cytopathology he
worked there for 2 years and then resigned from that post to work for
his parent institute UCMS as professor of Pathology. At UCMS as
co-investigator he worked for many projects funded by ICMR, DBT and
AYUSH and co-supervised a number of PhD thesis involving Experimental
Pathology. He has also supervised a number of MD thesis. He was Head of
the Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi for a period of more than 3
years till June 2021, and with Courses Committee looked after the UG
and PG teachings and finalized CBME curriculum for MBBS. In addition to
membership of international and national associations he has been a
regular reviewer for international journals including Diagnostic
Cytopathology. He has more than 150 publications in reputed
international and national journals
